LR Women’s Lacrosse Suffers First Loss of Season

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Team suffered its first loss of the campaign as they dropped a 16-8 decision to Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon. Ellie Campbell was incredible for the Bears in a losing effort, scoring five goals on seven shots and having a team-high nine draw controls and added three caused turnovers.

Chloe Christensen started the scoring off  with an unassisted goal just 63 seconds into the game. However, the Panthers answered with three straight scores. Trailing 4-2, LR rallied to tie the game with back-to-back goals from Campbell and Kaitlyn Cavanaugh to even the game at 4. However, FTU scored twice in the last 30 seconds of the first quarter to take a lead they would never give back.

The lead extended in the second quarter as the visitors scored five of the six goals in the frame to go into the break up 11-5. The lead extended to 10 with 1:20 left in the third but the Bears refused to quit. Campbell scored three straight goals to cut the deficit to 15-8 but LR couldn’t get any closer.

This is game two of the three game home stand to open the 2024 season for LR. This is the first meeting between programs since the 2019 season. Florida Tech is 3-0 against the Bears all-time.

LR is 1-1 on the season and will face nationally ranked Tampa at Moretz Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
