LR Baseball Ends Home Portion of Regular Season Schedule With Win

The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team ended its regular season home slate on a high note, as the Bears defeated Barton, 8-5.

Four Bears had multi-hit performances led by Khi Holiday, who finished with a team-high three hits in the contest. The junior also extended his lead on the team with two stolen bases, bumping his total up to 17 on the season.

In a game where the Bears used 10 different pitchers on the mound, Tyler Parks earned his third victory of the season while Brynden Rodriguez earned his first save at LR.

The runs came across the plate for the Bears thanks to the hot bats of Tyler McPeak and Cole Laskowski, as each player drove in three runs. It is the second time in both players’ careers that they have recorded a three-RBI game.

With the result, LR finishes with a 14-6 record in non-conference contests. The Bears also had a very successful home record against teams outside the SAC, winning in seven of the nine instances.

McPeak was able to extend his team-high hitting streak to 10 with a RBI single in the first inning. The graduate student is two games shy of matching his season high. Evans and McPeak each added to their home run total with each getting their 11th shot of the season. Evans hit a solo home run in the second while McPeak hit a two-run home run in the seventh. In addition to Holiday’s three-hit game, Sal Carricato, Laskowski and McPeak each had two hits in the contest.

With the combined pitching performance, the Bears registered eight strikeouts on the hill. Kyle Murphy led LR with two punchouts in his one inning of work. The Bears hit four Barton batters in the box. That is the sixth time this season that LR has hit that many batters, however, this is the first time the Bears won in these games.

With the win, LR leads the all-time series, 38-35. This was the 25th meeting between these two programs in the NCAA era. LR leads that part of the series, 13-12. LR and Barton split the regular-season series. In the first meeting between the two sides, Barton defeated LR, 15-9, on March 5 in Wilson, N.C. With the winning result, Chris Ramirez becomes the fourth coach in program history to earn 150 wins. LR ends with a home record of 16-8 in the 2024 season.

The Bears are 28-19 on the season. LR will prepare for its final conference series of the season. The Bears will start a three-game series against Mars Hill on Friday, April 26 at 2 p.m. from Mars Hill, N.C.
