LONG VIEW, N.C. (WHKY) – A 38-year-old Long View man has been indicted on multiple sex offense charges involving a minor following an investigation involving the Long View Police Department and the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Long View Police Department, its Criminal Investigations Division was contacted by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division on July 22, 2026, requesting assistance with an alleged sexual assault involving a minor that reportedly occurred at a residence in Long View.
Police said a subsequent investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant and criminal charges against Daniel Patrick McCommon. On July 24, investigators charged McCommon with one count each of statutory rape of a child 15 years of age or younger, indecent liberties with a child, failure to register a sex offender online identifier, and solicit by computer/appear.
McCommon was taken into custody by Long View police and transported to the Catawba County Magistrate’s Office. Authorities said he was held on a $200,000 secured bond for the solicit by computer/appear charge and a $125,000 secured bond for the failure to register sex offender online identifier charge. No bond was set for the other charges. McCommon was placed in the custody of the Catawba County Detention Center.
The case was presented to a grand jury at the Catawba County Justice Center on August 3. According to police, probable cause was granted for indictments charging McCommon with single counts of statutory rape of a child 15 years of age or younger, statutory sex offense with a child 15 years of age or younger, failure to register sex offender online identifier, solicit by computer and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.
