Six members of the Long View Fire Department were recognized for their lifesaving efforts during the June 8, 2026, meeting of the Long View Board of Aldermen.

Fire Chief James Brinkley presented the department’s Lifesaving Award to Captain A. Smith, Firefighter KC Gregory, Engineer M. Bondurant, and Firefighter J. Brown for their response to a medical emergency involving a one-year-old child in cardiac arrest.

When crews arrived on scene, they immediately began CPR and assisted with the child’s transport to the hospital. Chief Brinkley credited their quick actions, training, and professionalism with helping achieve a positive outcome.

The department also recognized two firefighters for their response during a medical emergency involving one of their own.

Chief Brinkley recalled receiving word that Long View Firefighter Wright had suffered cardiac arrest. He and Lieutenant McCarraher responded to the scene, where fellow firefighters were already providing emergency care.

“We had one of our members having a medical emergency and two of our members who had responded, exemplifying everything that a fire department stands for in its mission,” Brinkley said. “Everything was just so calm and professional on that scene.”

Engineer G. Newton and Lieutenant J. Lakey were each presented with the Lifesaving Award for their actions that day. In a moving moment during the ceremony, Firefighter Wright presented the awards to the two firefighters whose efforts helped save his life.

The Town of Long View and the Long View Fire Department thanked all six recipients for their dedication, courage, and commitment to protecting both the community and their fellow firefighters.
