A Lincoln County woman is facing identity theft and fraud-related charges after investigators say she was connected to a Cash App scam reported earlier this year.

According to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Rebecca Kay Martin of Cherryville was arrested on May 25 and charged with Identity Theft and Obtaining Property by False Pretense.

Investigators say the charges stem from a Cash App fraud case that was originally reported to the sheriff’s office on March 7.

Authorities have not released additional details about how much money was allegedly involved or how the fraud was carried out. Jail records show Martin is being held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges could be possible as investigators continue reviewing electronic payment records and financial information connected to the incident.
