CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WHKY) – A Caldwell County crash claimed the life of a Lincoln County man. The deceased is 68-year-old Jackie Wayne Mayo of Lincolnton.

On Thursday (September 3) at approximately 12:20 p.m., The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to U.S. 64 near Ward Green Lane, in Caldwell County.

A 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling West on U.S. 64. A 2018 Honda Pilot was stopped in the travel lane due to heavy traffic. The motorcycle failed to reduce speed before colliding with the back left quarter of the Honda Pilot. The motorcycle then deflected off the Honda Pilot into the oncoming east bound lane. The motorcycle then collided into an oncoming 2003 GMC pickup truck in the East bound travel lane.

The driver of the motorcycle Jackie Wayne Mayo passed away from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Pilot did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the GMC did not sustain any injuries. The initial investigation does not indicate speed or alcohol to be a contributing factor in the collision. No charges will be filed.
