Lincoln County Deputies Injured In Shooting Released From Hospital, Deceased Suspect Identified

Two Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies injured Monday (August 24, 2020) by gunfire have been released from the hospital and the deceased suspect has been identified. At approximately 12:15 p.m. Monday officers had responded to a physical domestic disturbance at an address on Gaston Webb’s Chapel Road and after clearing the call they learned that a man involved in the incident had four outstanding warrants.

Deputies returned to the location to serve the warrants and the male suspect retreated into a block building on the property. He began firing a shotgun striking two officers and deputies returned fire killing the suspect, who was identified as 31-year-old Corey Lee Cutler of Gaston Webb’s Chapel Road.

One officer was struck in the face by shotgun pellets. He was transported to Atrium Health – Main in Charlotte where he was treated for his injuries. He was released from the hospital Monday night. A second deputy was struck by a pellet in the arm and was treated and released from Atrium Health – Lincoln.

Under Sheriff’s Office policy several officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting the inquiry into the incident.
