Lightning Bug Boogie 5K Trail Run Set For Aug. 14

HICKORY, N.C. — The City of Hickory’s Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host the annual Lightning Bug Boogie 5K Trail Run on Friday, Aug. 14, beginning at 9 p.m. at the Lake Hickory Trails.

The nighttime race takes runners across off-road trails featuring hills, descents, tight turns, roots, rocks and other trail obstacles. Participants are required to wear a light source, such as a headlamp or flashlight, during the race.

Early registration is $30 through Aug. 3. The registration fee increases to $35 after that date. Participants who register before Aug. 3 will receive a commemorative race T-shirt.

Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, along with the top finishers in each age division. Winners will also receive a custom medal.

Race packets can be picked up Thursday, Aug. 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Highland Recreation Center. Participants may also pick up their packets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on race day.

The Lightning Bug Boogie is the third race in the City of Hickory’s 5K race series. Organizers say runners can register for individual races or the entire series.
