Lenoir-Rhyne’s Rakes Earns All-Tournament Honors

The NCAA DII Softball Committee announced the 2024 All-Tournament team from last month’s NCAA Division II Softball Championship as Lauren Rakes earned All-Tournament Honors. Rakes is the first ever Bear to make the All-Tournament Team as this was Lenoir-Rhyne’s first ever trip to the Softball Championship.

Rakes dominated both in the circle and at the plate during the four games of the tournament for the Bears. At the plate, Rakes went 3-8 with 3 RBIs and had four walks as Rakes had a .583 OBP% during the Tournament. Rakes also delivered the game-winning RBI in the 9th inning in the upset of No. 1 seed Auburn Montgomery to open the Championship.

In that game, Rakes not only drove in the game’s only run but also pitched all nine innings to earn the Bears their first ever win in the World Series as LR upset No. 1 seed Auburn Montgomery 1-0.

In her second win, Rakes had to go nine-innings again as LR defeated Wilmington 6-4. Rakes finished the tournament with a 2-0 record in the circle with a dazzling 1.03 ERA in 20 1/3 innings.

As the team, the Bears made the National Semifinals for the first time ever and was one of the last four teams playing during their historic 2024 season.
