Lenoir-Rhyne’s Brown Named SAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Alexis Brown has been named the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Friday, March 24.

Brown, a freshman sprinter from Mableton, Ga., became the first individual athlete in Lenoir-Rhyne history to win an NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship when she clocked the fasted 200-meter dash time (23.26 seconds) at the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship. In addition to winning the national championship, Brown earned All-American honors in the 60-meter dash with a 7.36 second performance and a fourth place finish.

Brown also had an outstanding showing at the SAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, earning SAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year honors, while winning the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Brown was also named the 2023 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.

The SAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award is determined by a vote by the league’s head coaches.
