Lenoir-Rhyne’s Boernigen Named Inaugural SAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

The South Atlantic Conference announced its Women’s Swimmer of the Week for meets competed in during the first week of the season. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Lisa Boernigen was named the swimmer of the week.

Boernigen, a senior from Munchen, Germany, won four individual events to open the season at the Guilford Invitational. She won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.56 seconds, the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.62 seconds, 50 freestyle with a time of 25.56 seconds, and 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59. Additionally, she was part of two winning relay teams, as she helped the Bears win the 200 medley relay and the freestyle relay.

Boernigen performance helped the Bears sweep the Guilford Invitational to open their season. Bears will return to the pool this Friday as the host Mars Hill and Converse in a tri-meet in Shuford Pool. First event starts at 6pm.

This is the first season the South Atlantic Conference has sponsored swimming as a championship sports.
