Lenoir-Rhyne’s Boernigen, McRea Earn Additional All-American Honors

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Lisa Boernigen has been named College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American and earned a spot on the Third Team as announced by the organization. In addition, the most decorated swimmer in LR swimming history adds another accolade to his resume as Micah McRea was named Second Team Academic All-American.

This is the first year that swimming has its own award as it was previously grouped in the “At Large” category in years past which included the sports of lacrosse, tennis, wrestling and rowing.

Boernigen is made four appearances to NCAA Nationals and is a standout in the classroom as well. An International Business and Management major, Boernigen has been a two-time Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society honoree and three-time president and dean’s list selection. Boernigen holds multiple team records including: 100 and 200 freestyle, 50 butterfly, and 100, 200 and 400 IM. She also has been a member of the Bears Leadership Academy, an academic tutor, a Bear of Distinction and on the National Society for Leadership and Success.

McRea is a six-time All-American and made four consecutive trips to the NCAA National Meet. A Politics & Law / Sociology major owns a 3.89 GPA and has been a three-time CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American. McRea earned the Wayne B. Powell Award of Excellence as a junior and has been named to the President and Dean’s list for academic and GPA recognition each of his four years at LR. Micah also qualified for the olympic trials in the 100m breaststroke following his sophomore year. McRea owns multiple team records inclduing: 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke, 100 and 200 freestyle and 100, 200 adn 400 IM. McRea has been involved with the Bears Leadership Academy and active in community service while also serving on the Student Government Association’s Executive Board. McRea is a multiple time Bluegrass Mountain Conference Champion as well as South Atlantic Conference champion.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
