Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Place Three on All-Conference Teams

The South Atlantic Conference announced its Women’s All-Conference honors on Wednesday and the Bears had three representatives in this year’s edition.

Evgeniya Pugina earned All-SAC Second Team Singles honors after the sophomore went 14-3 on the season. The Omsk, Russia native competed at the No. 1 singles spot in all 17 of her matches.

Pugina was listed as a Preseason All-SAC First Team Singles player before the start of the 2023 campaign and was named to the All-SAC Third Team Singles after 2022.

Picking up All-SAC First Team Doubles honors were Alicia Wahlberg and Lucy Whelan. The top duo for the Bears went 13-6 on the year and competed at the No. 1 line in each match.

Their efforts had a great impact on the Bears’ success in conference play by going 12-2 in their final 14 matches of the year.

This becomes the second-straight season that Whelan is listed as an All-SAC Doubles member; the graduate student made the second team in 2022 with Gemma Southwick.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team will begin their postseason on Thursday, April 20 at 9:00 a.m. as the No. 7 seed in the 2023 SAC Women’s Tennis Tournament. They will face No. 2 Wingate in the quarterfinal round in Sumter, S.C.
