Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Opens SAC Play With Convincing Win at Mars Hill

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team continued its perfect start to the 2023-24 season with a 6-1 victory over Mars Hill.

To start off the match, the Bears generated early control by sweeping the doubles matches to earn the first point. Dawson Clifford and Alexa Allison got the Bears rolling as the pair dominated the No. 3 line by winning the match, 6-1.

Then, in No. 2 doubles, Alicia Wahlberg and Nellie Wahlberg clinched the point for the Bears with a 6-4 result. To top it off, Runa Muderrisoglu and Claudia Orsini squeezed by in their match, 6-4, to take No. 1 doubles and finish the first half of the match strongly.

In singles, Alicia Wahlberg put together a clinic at the No. 3 singles line by only needing 13 games to win the match by a 6-1, 6-0 final.

After Mars Hill took the No. 1 singles match in three sets, LR jumped right back in front when Allison manufactured a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 7-6 (6).

To clinch the match for the Bears, Orsini put together a dazzling display at the No. 2 singles line with the 6-2, 6-1 victory. After the match was in control by LR, Nellie Wahlberg added another victory to her day by clinching a pro-set, 8-3, victory at No. 4 singles.

To wrap up the day for the Bears, Jessica Fuchs clinched her first singles victory of the season in an 8-3 outcome at the No. 6 singles line.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team will continue in conference play with another road contest against Anderson on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
