Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Falls to 12th Ranked Newberry
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team dropped their third consecutive match as they found themselves on the losing end of a 5-2 result to No. 12 Newberry.
Lucy Whelan captured her third straight singles victory with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Ish Singh at the No. 3 line.
As Natalie Lutz could not participate in singles, Jessica Fuchs made a move up into the lineup at the No. 6 singles spot. And fortunately for the Bears, the freshman was prepared to go to work with a 6-4, 7-6 victory against Rosie Harfield.
Despite their recent success in doubles, the Wolves outperformed the Bears in all three matches to earn the doubles point with a sweep. While in singles, outside of the Whelan and Fuchs’ victories, the other four matches were straight-set wins for Newberry.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team will seek to snap their losing streak on Wednesday, March 29 when they travel to Hartsville, S.C. to face the Coker Cobras at 2:00 p.m.
