Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Downs Tusculum

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis team closed out the regular season with a win over Tusculum 4-3 Sunday afternoon.

The Bears honored Lucy Whelan and Sanne Janssen as the lone seniors of the 2021 class.

In doubles, Tusculum was able to take two out of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point and go up (1-0). Natalie Lutz/ Diana Babinets secured the lone doubles match victory defeating Loretz/Palaio 6-4.

In singles, Gemma Southwick started things off defeating Lopez 6-1, 6-2 to tie the match up (1-1). Babinets then added to the momentum beating V. Loretz 6-3, 6-1 putting the score at (2-1) LR. Evelin Menyhart then dropped a match to P. Loretz 6-3, 3-6, 0-6 evening the score at (2-2). Whelan woud help LR retake the lead winning her match over Church 6-2, 6-4 (3-2). Lutz then secured the victory for LR defeating Palacio 6-2, 6-0 (4-2).

The Bears improve to 11-3 overall and 9-3 SAC play and will be the 3-seed in the SAC Tournament on April 15 as they play Tusculum.
