Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Defeats Belmont Abbey

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Tuesday to move back above .500 on the season.

After dropping the doubles point, the Bears became unstoppable in singles, winning five of the six matches.

Alicia Wahlberg and Lucy Whelan enjoyed a perfect day on the court, with each going 2-0 thanks to a 6-1 victory in doubles in addition to Wahlberg’s 7-5, 6-1 result in No. 2 singles, and Whelan’s 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 3 singles.

Evgeniya Pugina dominated in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Evelin Menyhart took a straight set, 6-3, 6-2 result in No. 6 singles.

In the most competitive match of the day, Natalie Lutz won a three-set thriller, 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 (5) in No. 4 singles.

This win for the Bears comes right before their conference opener on the road against UVA-Wise on Saturday, Feb. 18, where they look to keep their momentum going after a big mid-week victory.
