Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Ties With Florida Tech
In a rematch of the 2021 Elite 8 contest, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer team played to a 1-1 tie thanks to a goal in the 85th minute from Florida Tech. Elin Hansson scored the Bears lone goal in the 15th minute as the Bears remain unbeaten. The Bears will return to SAC play on Sunday when they travel to Limestone.
Hansson’s third goal of the season in the 15th minute gave the Bears the early 1-0 lead. It was just the second goal Florida Tech has given up all season.
LR’s defense did not allow Florida Tech a single shot attempt in the first 45 minutes. However, the Panthers broke through late in the second half. The Bears gave up their second goal of the season in the 85th minute as the Panthers found the equalizer by Daniela Tobon with just five minutes left in the contest.
After scoring a goal in the first half on seven shots, the Bears only had two shots in the second half with one on goal. The Bears had the edge on corner kicks 7-5 on the evening. Evan O’Leary got credit for the assist on the Hansson goal Kristin Oliver made one save in goal for the Bears.
Even through the Bears moved on to the 2021 Final Four after defeating Florida Tech in PK’s, the Bears have not beaten Florida Tech in program history. Four of the six all-time meetings have ended in a tie while Florida Tech won the other two matches.
The Panthers’ goal was the first goal LR has given up since the 12th minute of the opening game. It had been eight straight halves without allowing a goal before the Panthers struck late in this one.
Hansson’s goal was her 13th career goal in just her 21st game. The Bears only have one non-conference game left, a home tilt with North Georgia on September 27th.
LR is 2-0-2 on the season. Bears will play a rare Sunday afternoon contest as the Bears return to SAC play with a date at Limestone on Sunday at 4 PM.
