The No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Soccer Team tied Lees-McRae 2-2 to open their 2022 season. Elin Hansson scored the first goal in the 7th minute then Hansson tied the game in the 85th minute after the Bobcats scored twice in the second half. Evan O’Leary added an assist on the evening for the Bears.

It did not take long for the Bears to strike as Hansson scored her first collegiate goal after a pass from O’Leary in the 7th minute. The rest of the half was a defensive battle with only five more total shots combined. Bears held the Bobcats to just one shot in the first 45 minutes.

in the 66th minute, the Bobcats got on the board with a penalty kick from Talyor Barrineau after an LR foul in the box. LMC took the lead just nine minutes later with a goal from Priscilla Mawi, who beat Bears keeper Sarah Anne Phillips low and away.

With just a few minutes left the Bears tied it after a corner kick found Hansson, who drilled it in the back of the net to tie it at two. LR had a few more chances late but a save by Bobcat’s keeper and a Vivien Becker Peralta shot just over the net resulted in the 2-2 tie. With new rules starting this season, there is no overtime in regular season games. The game ended in a tie after the 90 minute regulation game.

The Bears doubled up on the Bobcats 14-7 on total shots including 10-4 shots on goal. Phillips had two saves in her Bears debut.

Bears move to 5-0-1 in their last six season opener. LR remains unbeaten against Lees-McRae in the last ten matches (9-0-1). The Bears had five ties last season including three in the NCAA Tournament (Advanced on PK’s).
