Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Mount Olive

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Team stepped out of conference play and traveled to Mount Olive for a non-conference tilt on Saturday. Kirra Olson scored three goals on the day but the Bears fall to the host Trojans 21-8. Sally Friesen made eight saves in goal for the Bears as LR will look to rebound on Wednesday night at Mars Hill.

Olson and Jolan Morey got first period goals for the Bears but the Trojans raced out to a 8-2 lead after ten minutes. Olson and Christensen had back to back goals in the second period to cut the lead to 11-6 but Mount Olive scored with :36 seconds left in the half to take a 12-6 lead into the break. After Morey scored her second goal, the Bears scored a man down when Rylie McGhan scored with 9;45 left in the third but the Trojans scored the last seven goals of the game to take the victory 21-8.

The Bears were out shot 40-13 on the night but the Bears scored on 8 of their 13 shots. Christensen had three caused turnovers and seven draw controls including her goal. Friesen made 8 saves inside the pipes.

Mount Olive has won the last three games against the Bears including this contest. The last visit here in Mount Olive, the Bears won 9-8 in overtime on February 25th, 2017. Olson now has 19 goals on the season, 19 goals matches her total from last year.

Olson has 10 goals in her last three games for the Bears. Christensen has 39 career caused turnovers, which is four away from moving into 10th all-time. Christensen is 6th in program history in draw controls.

Lenoir-Rhyne is 2-8 on the season. The Bears will travel to Mars Hill on Wednesday for a 7:00 PM contest.
