Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Fourth Ranked Tampa

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse fell for the second straight game as #4 Tampa came into town and defeated the Bears 26-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Tampa held the Bears scoreless in the second half as the #4 team in the nation scored 11 first quarter goals in the victory. Kaitlyn Cavanaugh scored two of the three goals while Kirra Olson added a goal for the Bears.

Tampa scored the first four goals of the game before Cavanaugh scored back-to back goals to cut the lead to 4-2. The Spartans then scored the last seven goals of the first quarter and the first two of the second period.

Olson then stopped the streak at the 7:06 mark in the second quarter as Cavanaugh got the assist on the goal. However that was the last goal of the game for the Bears as Tampa scores the last 13 goals of the game.

Four years ago on Thursday was Tampa’s last trip to Hickory. The Bears won the first two in the series between these programs but Tampa has won the last three. This was Tampa’s first game of the season.

This is the Bears last home game that is non-conference, LR will travel to Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey later in the season in non-SAC games.

Bears are 1-2 on the season. They will have their road and SAC opener on Sunday as LR travels to #15 Wingate to face off against the Bulldogs at 1:00 PM.
