Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Falls to 15th Ranked Wingate in SAC Opener

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse team lost their SAC opener as the #15 ranked Wingate Bulldogs scored the first seven goals on their way to a 16-4 win over the Bears. Ellie Campbell scored two of the four goals for the Bears as LR scored a single goal in each quarter. Sally Friesen made a career high 18 saves in the contest. 18 saves by Friesen is 4th most in a single game by a Bear in program history.

Wingate scored the first seven goals of the game before Kirra Olson got the Bears on the board. The Bears scored one goal in each quarter as Campbell scored in the second and fourth periods for the Bears.

Alexa Burghardt got the Bears third goal as Wingate scored six of the last seven goals to seal the victory. Frisen made 18 saves which was a career high. Frisen had 22 saves in her first three games of the season.

Anneleise Meyer and Makenna Filley each caused two turnovers on the afternoon. After the Bears won the first seven games between these two programs, Wingate has now won the last four.

This is also the earliest these two teams have played in the season. This is the first time they have played in February. Four of the next five games are in Hickory for the Bears only a short trip to Limestone is on tap the next three weeks.

Tieanna Sieben holds the record for saves in a game as Sieben had 21 saves in a game against Newberry last season.

Lenoir-Rhyne fall to 1-3 overall, 0-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears will have their SAC home opener against Anderson on Saturday. Start time is 1:00 PM from Moretz Stadium.
