Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Battles Close with Two-Loss Limestone

In their home finale, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Team fell to Limestone 15-13 despite a career-high five goals from Chloe Christensen. Christensen has scored 12 goals in her last three games and this was her 7th game with at least three goals for the sophomore. The Bears remain in fourth place in the SAC and will travel to Newberry on Wednesday as the LR will need a win to host a quarterfinal matchup on April 25th in the SAC Tournament.

After both teams scored a pair of goals in the opening quarter, the Saints exploded for five goals in the second frame as Limestone outscored the Bears 5-1 to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Bears responded after the break to score four of the first five goals of the half, including a pair from Cambrie Cochran, but Limestone then scored three straight goals to extend the lead to 12-7 heading to the fourth.

Bears made a push in the final quarter as Alexa Burghardt scored twice in twenty seconds to cut the lead to 13-9. After another Saints goal, Christensen scored her third and fourth goals to cut the lead to three with 7:21 remaining but the Saints stopped the Bears run once again with a Rylee Johnson goal to push the lead back to 15-11.

LR scored twice in the final minute including Christensen’s fifth goal of the day but the Bears ran out of time as the Saints earned a 15-13 win. Bears have five cards leading to four man-up goals from Limestone including three from Reese Hjertaas. On the flip slide, Limestone did not commit any infractions on the afternoon.

Elle Campbell, Isabelle Dunnam and Caitlyn Race all had three caused turnovers as the Bears had 14 caused turnovers, third-most this season. Other then Christensen’s five goals, the Bears got a pair of goals from Burghardt, Cochran, Ellie Campbell and Kaitlyn Cavanaugh.

Teanna Sieben made 12 saves on the afternoon as Sieben has made at least double-digits saves in eight of her last nine games.

The Bears fall to 0-10 all-time against Limestone. LR remains in fourth place and will travel to second-place Newberry on Wednesday.
Bears finish 4-7 between the bricks this season. Sieben leads the SAC with 161 saves. Sieben 48.3% save pct. is good for second in the conference.

Christensen and Cavanaugh both crossed the 30 goal mark for the season.

The Bears are 7-9 overall, 6-3 in the South Atlantic Conference. LR will conclude the regular season with a trip to Newberry on Wednesday at 7 PM.
