The Lenoir-Rhyne women’s golf team shave five shots off their team score on day two of the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Monday afternoon and moved from 11th place to a seventh-place tie with 18 holes left to play.
LR shot a 315 on day two and is even with Tusculum at 636 over the first two rounds of the tournament. Megan Robb led the Bears with a 75 and currently sits in a 14th place tie. Robb was +3 on the afternoon with a pair of birdies and 11 pars. For the second straight day, Robb birdied the 10th hole and is just two shots out of the top 10 individually.
The second-best round of the day for the Bears was turned in by Patricia Asensio who shaved five shots off her round one score with a 78 on Monday. Asensio fired birdies on holes seven and 11 and recorded eight pars.
Asensio was followed closely by teammate Beatriz Espelosin who was one shot behind with a 79 (+7) and had a birdie on hole nine. Katie Sibley shot an 83 (+11) for the fourth-best round for LR on the day.
The Bears head into the final round of the tournament which tees off tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. As a team, LR is 16 shots behind sixth-place Lincoln Memorial and 20 shots back of fifth-place Queens. LR is eight shots ahead of ninth-place Catawba and nine in front of 10th place Coker. The Bears took home a sixth-place finish in 2021 and finished in the top three from 2017-19, including a first-place finish in 2017.
