Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Wins Big Over Young Harris

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Team doubled up Young Harris 80-40 to move to 8-0 on the season. Jalen Gathers had a career-high 17 points while Blaikley Crooks and Brandi Hudson added a dozen each. With the 40 point win, the Bears have a 25.7 scoring margin so far this season.

In the first half, the host Mountain Lions started out hot scoring the first seven points of the game. The lead did not last long as the Bears went on a 16-0 during the next 4:01 of game play. Young Harris only scored four more points in the first quarter after their 7-0 to open the game. The Bears then used an 18-0 run during the second quarter to open a 25-point lead, Young Harris did score the last four points of the half to cut it the lead to twenty-one at the break.

LR shot 53.3% (16-30) in the first half from the floor including 4-4 from long range in the first quarter. Nine different Bears scored in the first half lead by Brandi Hudson’s seven points.

Gathers scored the last five points of the third quarter as the Bears expanded their lead to 62-35 after three quarters. Gathers scores a game high 17 points. Gathers started the fourth quarter with a three pointer just nine seconds in the quarter to open a thirty point lead. Sariya Henry finished the scoring with an jumper to give the Bears the forty point victory. LR’s bench was just one point shy of out scoring Young Harris as the Bears had 39 bench points on the evening.

Freedom grad Blaikley Crooks and Hudson had a dozen points each to join Gathers in double figures. Maddie Dillinger lead the Bears with eight rebounds in just tweleve minutes of action.

The Bears forced 24 turnovers on the night as Azariah Fields and Megan Landsiedel had three steals of their own. Fields added a season-high seven assists as the Bears assists on 21 of 32 baskets.

Lenoir-Rhyne is 8-0 on the season. The Bears will have a week off before welcoming Coker inside Shuford Arena  Saturday for a 2pm tip-off.
