The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball team is in a pair of NCAA Division 2 Top 25 polls.
Last week, the Bears were ranked for the first time since coming in 25th in the last regular season poll during the 2013-14 season in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Media Poll. The Bears were ranked 20th last week. Thanks to a multitude of losses by others this past week, along with the Bears picking up two more wins, L-R jumps 11 spots to number nine in this week’s poll. It’s the largest jump of any team who was in the top 25 last week. In addition, the Bears are ranked first in the Southeast Region poll by the D2SIDA. The Bears received five first place votes.
The Women’s Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, is in its ninth season of existence. Each region has six representatives who vote in the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters, two from each of Division II’s eight regions.
Also this week, Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked 20th in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Poll. The Bears were receiving votes last week.
At 8-0 to open the season, Lenoir-Rhyne is one of only 14 schools yet to suffer a loss heading into Tuesday night’s games. There are 313 NCAA Division 2 schools offering women’s basketball.
