Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Easily Dispatches Converse

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Team moved to 6-0 record with a 94-34 win over Converse on Saturday afternoon in Shuford Arena. The Bears move to 6-0 for the first time since the start of the 2007 season. The win was the Bears largest win since beating Davidson by 74 points in 1983. Emily Harman lead all scorers with 23 points while Megan Landsiedel (13), Blaikley Crooks (12), Jalen Gathers (11), Nevaeh Johnson (10) joined Harman in double figures.

In the first half, LR jumped from the start scoring the first six points of the game than went on a 31-3 run to close the first quarter. The Bears shot a season-high 70% from the field in the first quarter (14-20). L-R struggled in the second quarter going 6-19 from the floor but they grew their lead to 55-11 heading into the break. Freedom grad Blaikley Crooks scored all twelve of her points in the first quarter while Harman lead the Bears with 15 in the first half.

In the second half, LR held their largest lead at 61 points as the Bears outscored the Valkyries 22-6 in the third quarter. Harman scored eight in the third quarter and Hannah Stull and Bella Sims added a three as the Bears shot 47% in the quarter. The starters got the rest of the game off the as the Bears reserves finished the fourth quarter. Johnson scored 10 in the final quarter and Gathers scored five of her 12 in the final period.

The Bears move to 9-0 all-time against Converse. The series has seen three home games for each team and three neutral site games.
However, this was the first time the teams have played since 2015.

Brandi Hudson scored her 500th career point with her basket in the second quarter. Hudson’s 22-game double digit scoring streak came to the end as the senior scored seven points in just 14 minutes of action. 94 points is a season-high for the Bears as LR tops the 90-mark for the second time this season.

Maddie Dillinger lead the Bears with seven rebounds as seven Bears had at least four rebounds. Azariah Fields had four assists which is the third straight game with at least four assists for the point guard. Harman added five assists and four steals. The Bears forced 30 turnovers for the third straight game.

L-R is 6-0 and will travel to Frances Marion for a non-conference tilt on Monday.
