Lenoir-Rhyne Women and Men’s Tennis Grab Four Spots Each on SAC All-Conference Teams

The South Atlantic Conference postseason Tennis awards were announced, and Lenoir-Rhyne was well represented in both genders.

On the women’s side, Gemma Southwick, Lucy Whelan and Evgeniya Pugina were awarded All-Conference Honors by the SAC. Southwick and Whelan were Second Team All-Conference in doubles, Southwick was Second Team All-Conference in singles, and Pugina was Third Team All-Conference in singles.

For the men, the duo of Rhodri Atkinson and Josh Lazenby got their second straight First-Team All-Conference honors in doubles. Atkinson followed up his SAC Player of the Year season with First-Team All-Conference honors in singles. Teammate Lewis Scott also earned his first All-Conference honors in singles, making the Second Team.

Southwick and Whelan went 16-4 on the season, primarily at No. 1 doubles. Southwick also earns her third All-Conference honors in singles. This is Whelan’s first honor. Pugina, a freshman from Omsk, Russia, earns her first All-Conference honors.

Atkinson and Lazenby went 16-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Atkinson went 14-4 at No. 1 singles. Scott also finished the year 14-4 in singles, primarily at No. 3.

The Bears will now gear up for the SAC Tournament in Sumter, S.C., which begins Thursday.
