Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Sweeps UNC Pembroke

Lenoir-Rhyne had a convincing sweep over UNC Pembroke in non-conference action on Tuesday inside Shuford Arena. The Bears avenged an earlier season loss to the Braves and move to 15-8 on the season with the win.

LR jumped out to a 13-7 advantage in the first set and never looked back in the three-set victory. LR had 14 kills and hit .273 in the opening frame to jump out to a 1-0 advantage.

It was more of the same in the second set as the Bears produced a scorching .393 hitting percentage and never trailed. LR led by as many as nine points in a 25-18 win.

Any thoughts of a comeback were squashed when LR took the first seven points of the third set and Parkley Hennings sealed the deal with the game-winning kill.

Mackenzie Hulsey led the way with 25 assists and 15 digs and Ashley Hawkins added a double-double of her own with 11 kills and 10 digs. Emmaleigh Allen finished with 13 digs and chipped in eight kills. Bailey Carpenter added seven digs and her 4.22 per set rank fifth in the league.

Four players had double-digit digs for UNCP whose offense was led by 11 kills from Vanja Przulj.

This is the ninth sweep for LR this season. The Bears are a perfect 3-0 against UNC Pembroke inside Shuford Arena and own a 14-4 all-time record against the Braves.

LR added seven more service aces and are three behind conference-leading Wingate in total aces on the year.

The Bears are 15-8. LR will hit the road when they travel to Catawba on Friday at 6pm to resume South Atlantic Conference play.
