Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Dispatches Limestone

The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team pushed their winning streak to 13 in a row in the head-to-head series with Limestone thanks to a 3-2 victory over the Saints on Friday night. The teams traded the first four sets before the Bears clinched it with a 15-6 victory in the clinching set. The Bears had 21 blocks as a team and were led by 19 kills from Emmaleigh Allen and 10 blocks from Kathy Peter.

LR jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a 25-22 win in the opening set but dropped a 25-14 decision in the second. The Bears moved one step closer to moving to 7-1 in the league with a 25-19 win in the third but couldn’t seal the deal in the fourth set.

It was all LR in the fifth stanza, as the Bears jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 9-4 before closing it out 15-6. The Bears only hit over .195 as a team in the fifth set where they finished with a .333 hitting percentage.

Aasia McNeill registered a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs and Sydney Karjala continued her standout freshman season with 45 assists and 12 digs. Lyndsie Warren added 23 digs.

The Bears 13-game winning streak over Limestone is their longest current winning streak against any DII opponent. This is the second straight year that LR and Limestone went five sets in the Timken Center. Last year, LR erased a 2-0 deficit to come away with a 3-2 win.
LR struggled on the serve with 17 errors but closed out the win with an ace.

The Bears are 13-5 overall, 7-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. LR will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Coker at 6 p.m.
