Lenoir-Rhyne Triathlon Competes at Cal Tri-Charlotte

The Lenoir-Rhyne Triathlon team finished second overall and first among Division II teams at the Cal Tri-Charlotte race on Sunday. The Bears raced in an NCAA wave of a CalTri race at Lake Norman with a 750m swim, 26k bike and 5k run. The bike portion was 6km longer than a usual race putting added emphasis on that area.

The swim started with freshman Eliska Rihova the first Bear out of the water and her and teammate Sabrina Fleig were able to catch the lead group on the bike and stuck with them the rest of the way. The rest of the squad worked well together and came back to tied for second close together.

Rihova was the top LR finisher and in sixth place after five Division I finishers. Fleig held on well for an eighth place finish.

LR finished ahead of Division I East Tennessee St. and Delaware State. Sayti Plank and Chloe Telian finished 14th and 15th overall and Nanette Nikolajsen took home 20th.

The Bears return to action on Oct. 15 for the Regional Qualifier in Virginia.
