Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field Snags Two Athlete of the Week Honors
Two members of the Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field Teams earned SAC Athlete of the Week honors for meets contested during the third week of the outdoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Holly Kone was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. The junior from Nottingham, England, competed at the VertKlasse Meeting at Dick Vert Stadium. She finished in sixth place in the women’s triple jump with a 12.19 meter leap. Kone now holds the school record and reached the national provisional mark with her jump. Her leap is the best in the SAC and the eighth-best distance in NCAA Division II.
Orlando Descartes was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. The freshman from Orlando, Fla., competed at the VertKlasse Meeting at Dick Vert Stadium hosted by High Point University. He finished fourth place in the men’s javelin with a 55.81-meter throw, which broke a program record that stood for over 30 years. The throw was also good for the best in the SAC.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Squads will return to action on Friday, April 7 at North Carolina A&T for the Aggie Invitational.
