Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Wins South Atlantic Conference Tournament

For the first time since 2013, The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team won the SAC Championship as the Bears sweep Anderson in the 2024 SAC Championship Series. After taking game one on Friday in extra innings, the rain pushed game two back until Sunday morning as LR used a two-run home run from Lani Warren and a gem from Madison Wilson in the circle as LR swept Anderson with a 3-2 win in game two. The win was the six straight in the SAC Tournament for the Bears and every victory was by one run.

A solo home run by Anderson in the top of the 2nd give the Trojans an early 1-0 lead. In the third inning, Warren flew out to centerfield however an illegal pitch was called on the Trojans Laken Maxwell and it gave Warren another chance and the freshman came up big yet again as Warren made the mistake pay as Warren clubbed a two-run homerun on the next pitch.

A huge insurance run by Kaylan Brown in the 4th as she just missed a home run but ended up with a RBI double off the top of the wall scoring Rakes to give the Bears a 3-1 lead. Trojans cut the lead in half in the 6th and also got the lead-off runner on the bottom of the 7th but the Wilson shut the door and give the Bears their first SAC Championship in eleven years.

WIlson was outstanding in the circle picking up the second win of the series as the freshman allowed just two runs and five hits to the dangerous Anderson lineup.

Warren had the Bears only multi-hit game as LR was held to seven hits. She also hit both of her home runs in the SAC tournament in this championship series. WIlson was 3-0 with a 3.33 ERA in 27 innings pitched during the SAC Tournament.

Cassidy Wall hit .440 during the SAC Tournament.

The Bears have won their 9th SAC Tournament and their first since the 2013 season. LR actually won four in a row from 2010-2013 including defeating Anderson to win the 2012 SAC Championship. LR will receive an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament and will make their 16th NCAA appearance next week

On Friday, Lauren Rakes become just the 4th player in program history to hit 40 home runs. Rakes is also the only player in program history with 40 home runs at the plate and 800 strikeouts in the circle.

The Bears are 44-17 on the season, LR will make their 16th NCAA appearance on Friday. More information will be provided as the bracket is released.
