In game one, LR wasted no time in jumping on the Lions as the Bears scored four runs in the first. Six of the first seven Bears reached base in the inning and Kylee Leonhardt, Lauren Rakes, Lora Beth Wood and Leanna Sherrill all drove in runs. Sherill then connected on her first homerun of the season, a solo shot in the third. Sherrill finished game one 3-4 with 2 HR’s and 3 RBIs. It was Sherrill’s first multi-homer game and her second career three hit game. They were her seventh and eighth career home runs for the junior.

Mars Hill responded with a two-run homerun from Ashley Evans to cut the lead to 5-2.

After the Lions cut the lead to three, the Bears played long ball as Talon LaClair, Sherrill and Leonhardt all homered to finish the victory at 10-2.

Rakes went the distance in the circle with ten strikeouts to get her fourth victory of the year. It is Rakes third game this year with at least ten strikeouts. In gmae two, Leonhardt’s fourth hit of the afternoon was an RBI single that got the Bears on the board 1-0 in the 3rd. Lora Beth Wood then connected for her third homerun of the season in the 4th to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Evans hit her second homer of the day to gave the Lions their first lead of the day at 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th. With one out in the top 7th, Leonhardt tied the game at three with her sixth homerun of the season. Leonhardt’s 34th and 35th career homerun moves her to 4th place in team history.

After the Bears failed to score in the top of the 8th, the Lions had a runner on third with one out but Rakes got out of the jam with two strikeouts to force the game to the 9th.

Cherise Cowoski’s double and then a single by Hannah Jennings got the Bears the lead for good as they held on for the 5-4 win.

Mars Hill did have the tying run on third and the winning run on second in the bottom of the 9th with no outs but Rakes got two strikeouts then a fly ball to left to end the game.
