Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Stays Alive in South Atlantic Conference Tournament

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team walked off both games on Saturday in the opening round of the SAC Tournament. In the first game, Katelyn Rackard hit a game-winning three run home run in the bottom of the 9th to complete the comeback win against Catawba. Then Rackard come around to score on Lani Warren’s game winning double in the bottom of the seventh against Tusculum. LR will now face #7 Wingate as the Bears will have to beat the Bulldogs twice to advance to the SAC Championship round.

Bears are now 66-45 in the SAC tournament all-time.
LR is also 7-5 in SAC Tournament as the #4 seed.
Bears have their 12th 40-win season in program history with the win over Catawba.

Catawba scored a run in the second inning and it remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh.
After an key error cost the Bears on Friday afternoon, LR capitalized on a Catawba error to tie it in the 7th as Cassidy Wall RBI single force extra innings.
After no one scored in the 8th, Catawba hit two home runs in the top of the 8th as the Indians once again was three outs away from eliminating the Bears.
However Rackard came up and kept the Bears alive with a three-run walk-off homerun to advance the Bears.
Madison Wilson went all 9 innings in the circle allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out four.
Bears only had six hits in the nine innings as Lora Beth Wood was the only Bear with multi-hits.

Just like yesterday’s game, The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead as Pioneers scored four runs in the first two innings.
Bears then started to chip away as Madison Primm hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second.
Rackard then triple in Wilson and scored on a Julia Mardigian single in the 5th to cut the lead to 4-3.
Lauren Rakes then tied the game in the bottom of the 6th with a solo home run.
Rackard lead off the seventh with a strikeout but reached first on a passed ball. The mistake was costly for Tusculum as two batters later Warren drove the ball to deep center to score Rackard and advance the Bears to Sunday.

Bears now have 75 homeruns on the season which are second most in one single season.
LR is now 3-1 in extra innings this season.
Rackard had the cycle in four straight at bats spanning both games today. The walk-off homerun in the 9th against Catawba then Rackard singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd and tripled in the 5th in the game against Tusculum.

UP NEXT: Bears will face #7 Wingate at 12:00 PM tomorrow. The Bears will have to beat Wingate twice to advance to the SAC Championship.
