Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Releases 2024 Schedule
It will be a year-long celebration for the LR Softball team as head coach Shena Hollar celebrates her 25th year as the head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne. Hollar is closing in on her 1,000th career victory as she enters the season 29 wins shy of 1,000.
The season is scheduled to open on Saturday, February 3 when Lander visits Bears Field for both the home opener and opening day. Following a doubleheader at UNC Pembroke, LR heads to the Columbus St. tournament to take on four different teams in two days. The following weekend, LR heads to the North Georgia Tournament in what could have ramifications in the region later in the season as LR and UNG will meet twice.
LR closes out February with two at home against Lees-McRae and then two at Francis Marion. March opens with eight straight at home, including the SAC opener against Limestone on March 7. The month opens with a homestand and closes with a 10-game road trip that sees the Bears travel to Wingate, Mars Hill, Catawba, Belmont Abbey and UVA Wise.
April will see LR host LMU and Anderson to start the month in what could be a pivotal eight-game stretch against league foes. The regular seson will end on April 20 at Carson-Newman, the last home game of the year wil lbe April 18 in non-conference action against King.
For the second straight year, the SAC Tournament will be a split weekend and the Bears will hope to finish in the top two and be one of two host sites of the tournament. The first weekend is April 25-27 and the Championship is May 3-4.
NCAA play is set for May 9 as the Bears look to advance to their 16th NCAA Tournament under Hollar. The Bears will also be looking for their 13th regular season crown and ninth conference tournament championship in 2024.
