Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Forces Winner Take All in Super Regional

With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the six, Lauren Rakes delivers a solo home run to center field and added a few insurance runs to take game two of the best of three series, 6-4 at North Georgia. Madison Wilson stayed hot in the circle this postseason throwing a complete game as the Bears forced a winner take all game to advance to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.

For the second straight day, the game was tied 3-3 after three innings as the Bears scored once in the first and twice in the second again today.
Lora Beth Wood drew a bases loaded walk in the first before Madison Wilson and Julia Mardigian added RBIs in the second. The game was tied 3-3 till Rakes got a hold of one over 220 foot wall in center to give the Bears the 4-3 lead. LR got some key insurance runs as the Bears took advantage of some Nighthawks mistakes to add two more unearned runs. North Georgia added a run in the 7th but a key base running error and a heads up play by Wilson ended any threat as the Bears take game two 6-4. Wilson picked up her 5th this postseason with the complete game allowing just four runs.

All seven of the Bears Super Regional games in program history have been in Dahlonega, Georgia. This was the Bears first Super Regional win since their first in 2010. The 49 wins for the Bears this season is the third most in a single season. Mardigian broke the school record for most RBIs in a single season with number 65.

Rakes homerun was number 41 for her career and 16 for the season. Mardigian has 99 hits heading into game three. The Bears out hit North Georgia 6-5 as Wilson add two hits as well at the plate.
