Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Drop Opening Game of SAC Tournament

Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team fall to Tusculum in the opening game of the SAC Tournament. The Pioneers used three runs in the 7th inning to comeback and defeated the Bears. LR will face Catawba in elimination game Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Each team had their runs as the Pioneers scored the first three runs of the game and had a 3-0 lead until the Bears responded with four runs in the 5th. Madison Wilson had a two run double to get the Bears on the board then Lani Warren RBI single tied the game. Later in the 5th, Lora Beth Wood RBI single gave the Bears their first lead at 4-3. An throwing error by the Bears in the top of the 7th scored the two runs and give the Pioneers the lead as Tusculum holds the Bears in the bottom of the seventh to advance. Lauren Rakes threw the complete game allowing six runs (four earned) and striking out eight.

The Bears will face Catawba at 1:00 pm as the winner will player the loser of Tusculum/Wingate right after. Cassidy Wall and Madison Wilson each had two hits for the Bears. Mardigian broke the school record for doubles in the season with her 24th.

The Bears are now 64-45 all-time in SAC Tournament. Rakes no-hit Tusculum in the 2022 SAC Tournament. But this is first time the Bears lost to Tusculum in SAC Tournament (7-1)

The Bears will face Catawba at 1:00 PM from Wingate University.
