Lenoir-Rhyne Seeks New Golf Coach

Lenoir-Rhyne University has announced this week that Elliot Gealy has stepped down from his position as the Director of the Men’s and Women’s Golf programs. After nine strong years at the helm of the Bear’s golf program, Gealy has accepted the position of Assistant Golf Pro at Lake Hickory Country Club.

A staple in the SAC, Gealy led the Men’s and Women’s Golf programs to new heights during his time at LR. Over the course of his nine years at the helm, he coached the golf programs to a combined 15 wins, with eight coming on the women’s side and seven on the men’s. His women’s team won the SAC Championship in 2017, capping off a season that saw top-five finishes in all but one event. This past season he led the men’s program to the NCAA Regional for the first time in school history.

Under Gealy’s tutelage, Abbey Hartsell (2018) and Ainee O’Connor (2020) earned All-American honors. O’Connor also took home the SAC Golfer of the Year, Elite 20, and Student-Athlete of the Year awards in her 2020 campaign. During his head coaching tenure, Gealy coached a combined 24 All-Conference honorees, three SAC Freshman of the Year, and two SAC Golfers of the Year.

A national search for Gealy’s replacement is underway.
