Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Track and Field Team Finishes Third in Conference Championship

A year after finishing seventh in the SAC Championships, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Team took home a third-place finish at the conference championship meet. The Bears totaled 125 points and trailed Wingate (148.5) and Queens (143) in the final results.

LR had a couple of top-5 finishes in the hammer throw, with Ellis Horton taking 4th (46.90 meters), and Dalton Hatley taking 5th (46.42 meters).

Reigning All-American Jacob Wadsworth had a big day in his field events, taking the bronze in the high jump (1.95 meters), and the silver in the long jump (7.29 meters). Trent Davis II also took 5th in the long jump (7.09 meters)

Josh Wise took the bronze in the javelin throw (52.46 meters). The Bears dominated the pole vault. Oliver Thatcher won the gold with a vault of 4.50 meters, Chris Reichenbach and Mike Karicher tied for the silver (4.40 meters), and Philip Stomne took 5th (4.30 meters).

LR snatched 11 points in the 400m dash thanks to a fourth-place finish from Lucas Besong, fifth-place finish from Jacob Wadsworth and a seventh-place finish by John Sisson. The Bears also had 11 points in the 400m hurdles with Phlip Stomne grabbing a bronze and Wadsworth finishing in fourth place.

Trent Davis grabbed a silver medal in the 200m dash, sprinting a time of 21.25s in the event. As expected, the 4x400m relay team finished in first place to earn a gold medal with a time of 3:11.58. LR edged Limestone by .10 seconds but separated from the rest of the field as the third place finisher was nearly three full seconds behind.

The Bears will continue qualifying attempts for the NCAA Championships which take place in Allendale, Michigan on May 26, 27 and 28. The Bears will compete at Mount Oliver in the First Chance & Multi meet next Friday.
