Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Track and Field Garners Nine All-Americans

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Track and Field Team wrapped up the 2022 NCAA Championships with a program-record nine All-Americans.

Phillip Stomne started the All-American run for the program with his seventh-place finish in the Decathlon. Stomne totaled 7,057 points in the event to earn First Team All-American honors. Stomne stood out with second place finishes in the javelin throw (53.44) and 1500m (4:32.79) while also finishing fourth in the pole vault (4.35) and the 400m (49.46).

The Bears would take home Second Team All-American accolades in the 4×400 relay on Friday. The quartet of Lucas Besong, John Sisson, Marlin Davis and Jacob Wadsworth finished in 12th place with a time of 3:14.90.

Wrapping up the event, the 4×100 team qualified for Saturday’s final with a time of 40.32 on Thursday to finish seventh in prelims. On Saturday, Davis, Wadsworth, Besong and Trent Davis put a tmie of 40.48 on the board to finish seventh and earn First Team All-American status.

The nine All-Americans this year pair with the seven earned in 2021 to give the program 16 over the past two years. All-American status is determined by place of finish at the NCAA meet. Finishing 1-8 earns you First Team honors while 9-16 puts you on the Second Team.

As a team, LR earned four points and place in a tie for 29th as a program.
