The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team closed off its fall slate with a 5-2 victory over Shaw.

Starting with doubles, the Bears got off to a great start with a 6-1 victory by Vadym Rogynskyi and Rufus Plane in the No. 1 line. However, Shaw was able to salvage the point after taking a pair of 6-4 results in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.

Moving into singles, Zachary Cox earned the first point of the match for LR after coasting to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The hosts were able to jump back in front with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the No. 6 singles line by Lorenzo Marinetti, who defeated Joel Hemmings.

Despite dropping two of the first three points in the match, LR turned it around by ending the contest with four straight-set victories.

At the No. 4 singles spot, Connor Gibson used a second-set tiebreaker to even the match at two wins apiece. The junior held on to win 6-4, 7-6 (5) over Eduardo Valencia.

Then at the No. 1 singles line, Rogynskyi gave LR its first lead of the day with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory over Paul Charvoz.

Ultimately, it was Plane that clinched the match for LR as he manufactured a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 3 singles line. Lastly, Connor Donley cruised his way to a 6-1, 6-0 outcome to bring the match to its 5-2 result.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team will be back in action in the new year for an exhibition at UNC-Asheville on Sunday, Feb. 4. Their next competitive match will be on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Mount Olive.
