Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Wins Fifth Straight

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team earned its fifth consecutive victory with a 6-1 result over Coker.

The Bears got the match started on the right foot by taking two of the three doubles matches. At the No. 1 line, Vadym Rogynskyi and Rufus Plane notched a 6-3 victory to get the pair’s fifth-straight win. Meanwhile at the No. 2 spot, Mattias Selde and Zachary Cox clinched the point with a 6-4 victory.

After his doubles win, Rogynskyi steam-rolled his opponent at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 outcome. The sophomore has now won eight-straight singles matches, which is good enough for the longest active streak on the team.

Cox also went 2-0 on the day thanks to his straight set victory at the No. 1 spot to get back into the win column. The junior had a comfortable 6-1 first-set win followed up by a 7-5 second set result.

With the Bears on the verge of victory, Raphael Champaud pulled off an incredible come-from-behind win at No. 5 singles. The sophomore was handed a 6-1 defeat in the opening set, however, Champaud clapped back with a 7-6 second set result to force the critical third set.

In the final set, the Chandolas, France native prevailed with a 6-4 result to clinch his fifth-straight singles win and the match for LR.

At the No. 4 singles spot, Plane recorded another straight-set victory to win his sixth consecutive match for the Bears. The sophomore gave the Bears an additional point with his 6-2, 7-5 outcome.

To close out the day for the Bears was Connor Donley, who picked up a pro-set style victory at the No. 6 line. The freshman dominated his match with an 8-1 victory.

While the five-match home stand ends, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team begins a four-match road stretch with a conference battle against Tusculum. That contest is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Friday, March 29 in Greeneville, Tenn.
