Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Lose Against Mount Olive

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team suffered its first competitive loss in the 2023-24 season after being defeated by Mount Olive, 6-1.

Zachary Cox got the lone victory for the Bears at the No. 2 singles line. The junior posted a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 final to defeat the Trojans’ Niklas Gruenefeldt.

While Cox’s match was the only one that counted towards the final score, the Bears produced a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 doubles line with Nevio Dux and Connor Donley. Unfortunately for the Bears, the Trojans had already taken the first two doubles matches to secure the point.

Despite only recording one singles victory, four out of the five matches the Bears lost were three-set outcomes. And in three of those four, LR had won the first set, but could not finish the match off in the second or third sets.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team will return to action for an exhibition match against North Carolina A&T on Friday, Feb. 16, in Greensboro, N.C. The next competitive match for the Bears will be their SAC opener at Mars Hill on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.
