Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Swimming Takes 12 of 14 Events in Win Over Catawba

In their first meet in almost a month, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Swimming Team (1-1) posted a convincing 161-55 victory at Catawba on Friday morning. Today marked the Bears first meet since Halloween and the first against a Division II opponent after losing to Gardner-Webb.

Of the 14 events, the Bears won 12 of them. In the first event of the day, the quartet of Jacob Greene, Jacob Queen, John Ryan and Micah McRea posted a 400-yard medley relay time of 3:30.15, a full 25 seconds faster than Catawba’s team.

Alex Ballard earned the top finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.45) and Nathan McCormick took home first place in the 100-yard backstroke (54.29). McRea won the 100-yard breaststroke and Murphy took the 200-yard butterfly. Queen and Spencer Ashby went 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle and Ashby came right back to claim first place in the 100-yard freestyle (48.37).

Greene won the 200-yard backstroke by 10 seconds and McRea earned his second win, this in the 200-yard breaststroke. The Bears closed out the meet with wins in the 100-yard butterfly (Ashby), the 400-yard IM (Queen) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (McRea, Ashby, Queen and Ballard).

On the day, Queen and McRea earned four first-place finishes, while Ashby earned three.

The Bears return to action on Dec. 16 when they compete in the Wingate Invitational.
