Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Lose at Wingate

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Team dropped another conference game to a 2-0 scoreline, this time to Wingate Bulldogs to extend their winless streak to five.

The Bulldogs scored a couple of second half goals, while securing the match with a 86th minute winner by Kosi Mafela.

Despite the 2-0 score, the shot battle was even with an 11-8 total. The match had only four total shots on goal. LR only had one shot on goal, the lowest since its one shot on goal against Limestone on Sept. 16.

The Bears were shown four yellow cards, their most since five yellow cards against Anderson on Sept. 20. LR has now gone four matches without allowing a first half goal. It was another match of even corner kicks, both teams had four each.

Wingate leads the all-time series, 30-18-4. The Bears have not won a match in Wingate, N.C. since Oct. 21, 2017.

This match marked the first meeting between the two programs since their NCAA Tournament match on Nov. 14, 2022. In all-time SAC meetings, Wingate leads the all-time series, 24-13-1. In matches at Wingate, the Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 14-7-2.

The Bears drop to 1-4-3 overall, 1-2-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. Lenoir-Rhyne will continue their four-match road trip with a visit to Emory & Henry on Wednesday, Oct. 4. It will be the first time the Bears make the trip to Emory, Va.
