Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Downs 11th Ranked Wingate

Thanks to a beautiful goal by Noah Tiefel in the 32nd minute, the No. 10 Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Team ended the regular season unbeaten with a 1-0 win over No. 11 Wingate. The win was the third win over a ranked opponent in the past two years for LR.

Lenoir-Rhyne took advantage of the only shot they put on frame in the contest as Cascon kept a ball in play and Benjamin Gnieser found Tiefel for the game-winner.

Wingate held a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 7-1 lead in shots on goal.

Each team took a pair of corner kicks in the match.

Juan Basabe made six saves for Lenoir-Rhyne to earn his fourth win of the season.

Each team was whistled for 12 fouls and Wingate had four yellow cards to three for Lenoir-Rhyne.

The two teams combined to go 7-0 in other pods games and outscored their opponents 18-2.

Despite not playing in the last two weeks, Jaime Poza leads the SAC in assists with four.

Goalkeeper Juan Basabe entered the game fourth in the SAC in save percentage (.824) and goals-against average (0.71).

The Bears honored a pair of seniors after the match.

Despite playing one less match than the rest of the league, Lenoir-Rhyne ended the season with 13 points which were the second-most in the conference.

Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 4-0-1, 4-0-1 SAC. The SAC Tournament starts Monday with the Bears as the number two seed, hosting Queens.
