Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Defeats Newberry
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Team remained unbeaten in the month of October with a 2-0 win over Newberry on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears wasted little time grabbing the upper hand as Harri Rowe notched his first goal of the year in the 6th minute. Rowe’s goal was the seventh of his career.
Adrian Martina would net his eighth goal of the year in the 15th minute as the Bears shutdown Newberry the rest of the way.
The contest saw eight cards handed out with Newberry getting five, including a red card in the 87th minute.
The Bears won the shot battle 16-9, including doubling up Newberry 10-5 in the first 45 minutes. LR also had the advantage in corner kicks, taking six to just a pair from the Wolves.
Each team was whistled for seven fouls.
Juan Basabe made three saves in the clean sheet while Jacob Cotton made two stops for Newberry. On top of finding the back of the net, Martina fired seven of LR’s 16 shots on the day. Martina has a point in three straight games and four of his last five.
Lenoir-Rhyne now has beaten Newberry more than any other opponent in their history. LR owns a 22-5-1 mark against Newberry, one more win than the 21 they own against Catawba.
LR is now 3-0-2 since the calendar flipped to October. With the win, LR moved into sole possession of fifth place in the SAC standings which is important as the top four host a SAC Tournament Quarterfinal match.
Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 4-4-5 overall, 4-2-3 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears will return to action next Saturday when they host Lincoln Memorial on Senior Day at 6:30 p.m.
