Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Wins Second Straight Contest Against Ranked Opponenet
The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s lacrosse team defeated its fourth ranked opponent this season in a 20-11 victory over No. 15 Florida Tech. In the win, Myles Moffat became the program’s all-time leader in career assists with his three helpers and Toron Eccleston poured in a season-high six goals.
The Bears scored first as Eccleston netted the first of his six tallies but the Panthers answered with three in a row. LR closed out the quarter with back-to-back goals to even the game. Joe Venazio ended the quarter with the first of LR’s six man-up goals on the day with just six seconds left in the frame to even the game at 3.
The Bears scored 17 goals in the final three quarters to reach the 20-goal mark for the third straight game. The Bears extended their scoring run to 7-0 with the first five goals of the second quarter. The Panthers battled and made it 9-7 before LR took control for good. The Bears scored five of the next six goals.
10 different players recorded at least a point in the game led by eight from Eccleston. Landon Parker recorded a career-high three goals and an assist. Kyle Hatcher had a goal and two assists in his first action of the season. Will Canata had three goals and Riley Seay and Venazio had three points.
Victor Powell had four caused turnovers in the game and three ground balls. Matthew Mancini won 12 of 22 face offs and grabbed four ground balls. LR held a 60-34 advantage in shots in the game.
Moffat passed former teammate and Director of Player Development Eric Dickinson on the all-time assist list. The Bears have scored 76 goals in their past four games.
This was the second neutral site game for LR this year with both coming against Sunshine State Conference opponents. This was the last non-conference game of the year for LR. The Bears finish 5-1 against non-conference foes.
Lenoir-Rhyne is 6-1 on the season. The Bears will return to action on Wednesday when they take on Newberry in SAC play at 7 p.m.
