Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Fourth Ranked Tampa

Despite falling behind 4-0 early, the No. 1 Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Team came back to top No. 4 Tampa 12-9 in a top five matchup. This was the second straight win for LR over a top 10 team this year.

Jonathan Bender led LR with three goals and three assists. Rob Pensabene made 11 saves. Caison Dillon netted an LR-best four goals. Ryan Duncan had a hat trick and added an assist. The Bears trailed 4-0 early but stormed back with five straight to end the first half. LR took a 9-6 lead into the half. The game was 12-9 after three with neither team finding a goal in the fourth quarter.

This is the first time LR has beaten Tampa in the regular season since 2018. Two of the previous wins for LR over Tampa came in the NCAA Tournament in 2023 and 2021. This is the second time LR has won this year when they have given up the first goal. The Bears are 4-7 all-time against Tampa.

L-R improves to 3-0 on the early season. The Bears will return to action on Saturday when they host Adelphi.
